This section is dedicated to the various families who have paved the way for future communities. Here we can find families who were founding members and/or contributors to the different Black organisations in Montreal. Among these families the Taylors, the Bournes, the Braxtons, the Millingtons and the Sportsmans were all early members of the Union United Church.
Many families were contributors and members of both the Negro Community Centre (NCC/founded in 1927) and the Union United Church (UUC/founded in 1907). As the NCC was founded within the walls of the church, once the organization moved to its own location in 1954* a couple of streets away, many members contributed to the development of both spaces simultaneously. Other organizations were also crucial to the development of the Black communities in Montreal. The Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA/founded in 1919) which Marcus Garvey started in Harlem, New York rapidly made it marks in Montreal after visiting the church.
